The hidden beauty of kaolin or china clay was already appreciated from as early as 1st century AD. After its discovery in the mountainous province of Kiangsi, in AD500, it was first used by the Chinese to make high quality porcelain. Hence the name 'Kaolin' was derived from 'Kao Lin', meaning 'High Ridge' in Chinese. A natural mineral found in partly decomposed granite, processed or refined kaolin is available in either the form of white powder or granules, and has a natural whiteness and fineness. ln addition to its non-abrasive property and chemical stability, it is a versatile product with a wide range of applications.
